Caravaggesque Italian painters, painters of reality
In 2013, the G. Sarti Gallery held a museum-quality exhibition in Paris, bringing together twenty-two exceptional paintings by Italian artists who worked in the wake of Caravaggio.
The greatest painters from different parts of Italy were represented: Bartolomeo Manfredi, Giovanni Battista Caracciolo, Cavarozzi, Jusepe de Ribera, Andrea Vaccaro (the Saint Agatha is now in the Musée Fabre of Montpellier), Luca Giordano, Artemisia Gentileschi, Bernardo Strozzi, Guido Reni and Daniele Crespi, whose Flagellation is now in the collection of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
All the paintings presented here were acquired by Giovanni Sarti during the last decade, and this exhibition was certainly the finest collection of Caravaggesque works ever assembled in a gallery.
