SOUNDS AND COLORS

Silence is de rigueur in museums. And yet, in the 14th century, the believers could see the paintings in their churches with the sound of Gregorian chants; the paintings by Caravaggio that adorned the walls of palaces could sometimes be contemplated with the tune of an opera by Monteverdi; as for Vivaldi, Bach or Handel, they composed their most beautiful concertos in honour of Venice…
This exhibition recreates the musical atmosphere in which the paintings on display were created, from the 14th to the 18th century. Each piece is chosen in harmony with the period and the subject of the painting, adding an extra dimension to the work and perhaps allowing visitors to hear the colours sing…
